The Chancel Choir

Choir  Director: Shirley Columbo

About The Choir

The Malvern United Methodist Choir is a 4-part harmony chancel choir, comprised of about 10 choristers, which plays an essential part in the worship service of the Malvern United Methodist Church. They lead the congregation in the service through the singing of the hymns. The choir also sings a wide variety of music, under the direction of Mrs. Shirley Columbo. The choir sings through the blending of classical, and spiritual music, along with beautiful hymn arrangements, well known traditional anthems, and the most exquisite masterpieces derived from some of history’s most famous world renowned artists such as, “Gloria” from Mozart’s 12th Mass, to  the glorious triumph of Handel’s “Messiah”.

The choir performs every Sunday Worship Service, sharing with the congregation a worship of song. The choir is also best known for its miraculous Christmas Cantata on Christmas Eve, which is the main event of the choir season.

To become a chorister in the choir, no trained voice is necessary. Requirements for membership are the ability to read music, a voice that blends with others, and members who are committed to a majority of the rehearsals and Sunday performances. The choir rehearsals are held in the sanctuary of the church on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. New members are welcome, and the choir accepts voices of all ages!
